Self assessment for anxiety

The following questions have been designed to help you assess whether you have some of the symptoms of generalised anxiety disorder. This assessment is not designed to make a diagnosis of anxiety or take the place of a professional diagnosis, however it is a way for you to gain some clarity around your situation.

As you read each of the following, click the button beside each question that relates to how you have been feeling and behaving.

For SIX MONTHS or more on more days than not, have you:

felt very worried
found it hard to stop worrying
found that your anxiety made it difficult for you to do everyday activities (e.g. work, study, seeing friends and family)?


Your Result:


If you answered 'YES' to ALL of these questions have you also experienced THREE or more of the following:

felt restless or on edge
felt easily tired
had difficulty concentrating
felt irritable
had muscle pain (e.g. sore jaw or back)
had trouble sleeping (e.g. difficulty falling or staying asleep or restless sleep)?


Your Result:



If you answered "yes" to part 1 AND have experienced 3 or more of the symptoms in part 2, you could be suffering from an anxiety disorder that would benefit from treatment.

if you scored less than 3, you might like to try:
  • a stress reducing activity such as meditation, walking or yoga;
  • cutting down on caffeine;
  • making sure you are getting a good night's sleep [links to our > sleep]
  • considering whether there are contributing factors to your
  • anxiousness such as relationship issues
