Preferred Service Provider Program What are the Benefits of being a Preferred Service Provider (PSP) to South Pacific Private?
What do you need to do to achieve this status?
Professional Training Program
This is a graduated modular training
program incorporating the principles of the therapeutic approach utilised at
South Pacific Private. Our aim in sharing these modules with the professional
community is to facilitate smoother transitions for clients between therapist
and Treatment Centre. Participants in the Professional Training Program must have professional relevance to the training and are required to complete each Module sequentially. The training is open to industry professionals, including therapists and nurses, SPP staff and those participating in SPP’s Preferred Service Provider program. Completion of Modules One and Two is compulsary to become a Preferred Service Provider to SPP, while Module Three is optional.
Module one: Therapeutic Fundamentals Module One is an overview of the therapeutic journey through South Pacific Private (SPP). We introduce the principle therapeutic modalities utilised throughout treatment with particular focus on Pia Mellody’s Developmental Immaturity Model. These therapeutic fundamentals are discussed as we explore the functions of Primary Group, Changes and Family Week. Client tasks and homework are also explored and discussed. There will be particular emphasis on education around feelings (healthy vs toxic, the gifts etc), medicators and defence mechanisms. Participants have the opportunity to increase self awareness and get a sense of the way we work at SPP. They will be encouraged to explore whether it sits well with their personal and professional viewpoints.
Module Two: Integration of Therapeutic Fundamentals This module focuses on looking at how we therapeutically facilitate the process of treatment at SPP. The focus will be on working therapeutically with wide range of issues that present in group. We look at the polarities of intimacy and abuse. We explore management of and therapy with toxic feelings, unresolved grief, post traumatic stress. How to soothe clients and manage crises. Several therapeutic processes will be demonstrated and discussed.
Module Three: Therapeutic Approaches to Treating Addiction Module Three begins with an overview on understanding addiction, addictive behaviours and co-occurring disorders, their treatment and possible causes as is understood today. We discuss the holistic impact of addiction as it relates to Pia Mellody’s Developmental Immaturity Model and the physiological impacts of substance abuse. We review different ways of working with clients in addiction through incorporating aspects of different treatment approaches. Such approaches facilitate confrontation and challenge, facing and breaking shame based patterns of behavior, and facilitate education and skills development toward greater client personal responsibility and esteem of self. We also discuss the importance of supporting the client/therapist relationship in relapse. Finally, we review Aftercare Recovery Planning and its pivotal role in the Early, Middle and Late stages of addiction recovery.
