This presentation is designed to increase participants’ awareness about their attitudes towards addiction; key concepts in chemical dependency; the dilemmas in dealing with people with addiction illness; and ways to quickly assess and intervene. APS Endorsement Application has been submitted and will advise points once approved.
You Will Learn To
- Identify the attitudes about use, abuse and dependence of psychoactive substances that can interfere with assessment and treatment of chemical dependency.
- Review key concepts about chemical dependency and screening and diagnostic strategies to identify and determine treatment options and interventions.
- Discuss the role of the family in addiction and the involvement of physicians in brief intervention; and working with the family to engage the client into treatment
Presenter
David Mee-Lee, M.D. is a board-certified psychiatrist and is certified by examination of the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM). He is based in Davis, California and is involved in full-time training and consulting both nationally and internationally.
Dr. Mee-Lee is Chief Editor of the Revised Second Edition of the ASAM Criteria, ASAM PPC-2R, which includes criteria for co-occurring mental and substance-related disorders. He is a Senior Advisor to The Change Companies and has over twenty-five years experience in treatment and program development for people with addiction and co-occurring mental and substance use disorders.
