Getting to know our Speakers for the 2007 Alumni Retreat

We are pleased to say some of your favourite SPP experts will be presenting or facilitating at this year’s retreat, they are listed below (in alphabetical order):

 

Lorraine Wood

Lorraine Wood, Director & Co-founder
Lorraine Wood is the Director, and, with her late husband Bill, Co-founder of South Pacific Private. The Woods personal journey's of recovery had taken them to The Meadows in Arizona. Where they discovered a place to enrich, nurture and heal. This experience so profoundly affect their lives and those of their family that Lorraine and Bill were inspired to establish a similar program here in Australia. In 1993 the Woods opened the doors of SPP and today Lorraine continues to lecture clients and to inspire all with her commitment, strength and great heart.

Tjanara Goreng Goreng
Tjanara is the Founder and National Convenor of the Foundation for Indigenous Recovery & Development, Australia (FIRDA). Tjanara has had a distinguished career including: therapist/trainer, and community development practitioner. Tjanara trained with John Bradshaw at his Clinic in Los Angeles in the early 1990’s and uses Non Shaming Therapy in her private practice and in professional workshops for dependency and recovery from generational family violence and abuse.

 

John Falcon (1993-1995; 2004 - 2005)
John Falcon began his career in the behavioural health field in the early 1980’s as a psychiatric nurse supervising adult and adolescent program within a major psychiatric hospital in southern California. From here he went on to develop treatment programs for alcohol and other drugs within the psychiatric hospital treatment setting and held several positions as a supervisor, program developer and trainer.

John then moved to Sydney and worked as the Director of Curriculum with the Australian Institute of Counselling in Addictions, providing training in the field of addictions to the Australian Defence Force. John went on to join the staff at South Pacific Private in 1993 and returned in 2004 as the Clinical Director of Program Development and Training.


Falcon completed his Masters degree at Macquarie University Sydney in 1998, registered as a Psychologist in 1992 in NSW and became a member of the Australian Psychological Society.

Maria Dolenc
Maria is a qualified Gestalt Therapist and Addictions Counsellor working with individuals and groups. She has lectured on Holistic Counselling at Nature Care College. Maria presents lectures and conducts workshops at South Pacific Private where she works as a Family Therapist and also has her own private practice. She currently works with individuals and couples in counselling and group work including Family Constellation workshops.

Dr Ben Teoh (2004-now)
Dr Ben Teoh is a medical graduate of the University of NSW. He is a Consultant Psychiatrist and a Physician in Addiction Medicine. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Physician, Chapter on Addiction Medicine. He completed a Masters Degree in Psychotherapy from the University of NSW and wrote a thesis on the psychotherapy of depression.
Dr Teoh has special interests in Mood / Anxiety Disorders and Alcohol / Substance Addiction. He has been a Consultant in a Mood Disorders Unit for more than 15 years, and he is a Member of the NSW Mental Health Review Tribunal. He is actively involved in forensic issues and mental health. Dr Teoh is the Director of Clinical Services and Medical Superintendent, South Pacific Private.

Nancy Leadbeatter
Nancy joined the SPP Clinical team in 1996 and over the years has taken on most of the clinical roles, including 6 years as a Primary Therapist. Today in her role as Changes therapist and as a private practitioner, Nancy brings draws on her training and skills in mediation, psychodrama, Gestalt techniques, Focusing and Family Constellations.
Learning to teach the Co-dependency model in SPP's Changes Program, Nancy says, changed her life. She sees this Model as a simple but powerful way for clients to gain an understanding of themselves and their relationships enabling them to move forward with greater clarity and love of Self.
Nancy's previous work includes personal growth coaching to both adults and high-school students at a leading Sydney girls school.

Jackie Furey (1994 - 1997)
Jackie Furey is a psychotherapist and executive coach.
She is the principal of Bedrooms to Boardrooms – an organisation which supports people in developing their work/life balance. She travels internationally and nationally delivering presentations, facilitating workshops and conducting individual and group consultations.
Jackie is passionate about people being empowered to choose what kind of life they want and believes her time as a therapist at South Pacific Private helped nurture this passion.

 

 

 

 

 

 

This event is open to past clients of SPP, their family and friends and anyone who is interested in Personal Recovery and Growth.

We invite you to take up this chance to come together for a day and share in the gift of reconnecting with yourself, gain new tools for your personal journey, and re-visit some of the SPP fundamentals that are still essential daily living skills.

We offer this through an exciting and fun day of workshops, and activities. All in a framework designed to allow you to choose the topics and presenters you feel will best suit your needs for growth and recovery.

SESSION ONE
Presentation by John Falcon:
"The Power of Intention"
Recovery is about self-mastery - holding an image of what I want and focus all my energy toward that one thing in order for it to manifest. Rather than focusing on the Human Condition, that which is lacking, John will take you through the positive features that make life worth living.

Hope, wisdom, creativity, future mindedness, courage, spirituality and responsibility are what transform us. John will guide you through skill-based exercises that will enable you to anchor Intention setting for yourself.

  Session Two A:   Nancy Leadbeatter:
"Discovering the Path back to your Inner Child"
Our Inner Child is the source of our Creativity, Imagination, Passion and all of our Feelings. All of our Needs and Wants come from this part of ourselves. So when we aren’t in contact with this important part of our being we aren’t in contact with our true Self.

The negative messages received in our childhood form attitudes that affect our lives and block our path to our Inner Child. Once we discover that as adults we have the power to re-parent our Inner Child with unconditional love and approval we can re-open the path to our true Self. During this experiental workshop you discover this path for yourself.

"What you need to know about Medication Management in Recovery"
Medication Management is an integral part of your journey to sustainable wellness. Get to know the do’s and don’ts of taking medication in recovery.

Dr Teoh will outline the basics of medication management and then be available for individual questions and discussions.

Maria Dolence:
"Doing the Work: Four Questions to change your life"

What is your inner conflict trying to tell you? Find out in this guided workshop as Maria offers up Byron Katie’s four simple yet towering questions in order to unveil your views on others and ultimately yourself. These four questions are at the heart of Byron Katie’s "Work" a deeply transformative process of self inquiry that gives you the opportunity to approach your problems from a perspective of clarity and inner peace.

This workshop will provide you with tools you can use in a range of situations with colleagues, friends and anyone who impacts your life. Each time you use these tools, the four questions, you enable yourself access to the timeless essence of your inner freedom.

"Spirituality" Living Day to Day
An opportunity to explore the benefits of Spirituality in you life on a daily basis and the benefits of developing a more personal relationship with yourself, a higher power, and others. The more grounded and connected one becomes in daily life, the more supported we feel as we commit to change and fulfillment.

Interactive Workshop
  Nancy Leadbeatter & Maria Dolenc: Reclaiming your Authentic Power: Self-Acceptance through embracing your Shadow Self
One becomes enlightened by making ‘the darkness conscious’ - what you don’t own, owns you. In order to be fully alive and whole we need to understand, own and embrace the dark side of our self.

Maria and Nancy will guide you through an exciting, creative and fun 2 hour experience that includes group interaction and role playing. The outcome for each of us in knowing our shadow will be one of freedom and integration.
