South Pacific Private's Professional Training Program Overview
A graduated modular training program incorporating the principles of the
therapeutic approach utilised at South Pacific Private.
MODULE ONE: THERAPEUTIC FUNDAMENTALS
Industry professionals, including therapists and nurses. Please note: all persons considered must have professional relevance.
OUTLINE:
Module One is an overview of the therapeutic journey through South Pacifi c Private (SPP). We introduce the principle therapeutic
modalities utilised throughout treatment with particular focus on Pia Mellody’s Relational Developmental Model.
These therapeutic fundamentals are discussed as we explore the functions of Primary Group, Changes and Family Week. Client tasks and homework are also explored and discussed. There will be particular emphasis on education around Feelings (healthy vs toxic, the gifts etc), medicators and defence mechanisms.
Module One participants have the opportunity to increase self awareness and get a sense of the way we work at SPP. They will be encouraged to explore whether it sits well with their personal / professional viewpoints.
MODULE TWO: INTEGRATION OF THERAPEUTIC FUNDAMENTALSModule Two is mandatory for any member of South Pacific Private’s clinical team, Preferred Service Providers to South Pacific Private and other interested professionals. Please note: all participants must have completed Module One.
OUTLINE:
This module focuses on looking at how we therapeutically facilitate the process of treatment at SPP. The focus will be on working therapeutically with wide range of issues that present in group. We look at the polarities of intimacy and abuse. We explore management of and therapy with toxic feelings, unresolved grief, post traumatic stress. How to soothe clients and manage crises.
Several therapeutic processes will be demonstrated and discussed.
MODULE THREE: THERAPEUTIC FUNDAMENTALS TO TREATING ADDICTIONIndustry professionals, including therapists and nurses. Please note: all persons considered must have professional relevance.
OUTLINE:
Module Three begins with an overview on understanding addiction, addicitve behaviours and co-occurring disorders, its treatment and possible causes as is understood today.
We discuss the holistic impact of addiction as it relates to Pia Mellody's Relational Development Model and particularly with substance abuse, the impact of different legal and illegal substances on our physiology, and the brain. We explore current methods of working with addiction through stages of motivation to support client movement toward recovery and discuss the importance of supporting the client/therapist relationship in relapse.
We review different ways of working with clients in addiction through incorporating aspects of different treatment approaches. Such approaches facilitate confrontation and challenge, facing and breaking shame based patterns of behaviour, and facilitate education and skills development toward greater client personal responsibility and esteem of self. Finally, we review Aftercare Recovery Planning and its pivotal role in the Early, Middle and Late stages of addiction recovery.
The module is experiential and interactive as approaches toward addiction treatment are explored and discussed. There will be particular emphasis on education around the way that we work at SPP toward emotional governance, awareness of personal responsibility and learning to esteem of all parts of self.
Participants have the opportunity to increase self-awareness and get a sense of the way we work at SPP directly linked to addiction. They will be encouraged to explore whether it sits well, and how it can be integrated, with their personal / professional viewpoint and with clients pre and post SPP participation.

Only Module One and Module Two are mandatory in completing the Preferred Service Provider program and Application.

These three Modules are run over two consecutive days.
