The following questions have been designed to help you assess whether you are a compulsive overeater. This assessment is not designed to take the place of a professional diagnosis, rather to help you reflect. As you read each of the following, click the button if your answer is YES. Remeber to be honest with yourself - you are the only person to see the results of your personal assessment: Do you continue eating when physically full (usually the “first bite” leads to overeating)? Are you constantly eating beyond normal appetite? Do you buy more food than is needed for the household Do you eat while preparing food? Do you prepare extra portions of food while cooking? Do you finish food on others’ plates during the meal, or while cleaning up the dishes? Do you have a history of many attempts to lose weight through diet plans, weight loss centers, physician orders, “fad” diet regimens, etc? Do you constantly obsess about food and weight? Do you focus on eating or not eating next meal? Do you associate mostly with other overweight individuals? Do you eat little or infrequently in public (do the majority of eating at home or with “eating buddies”)? Exhibit the well-known signs and symptoms of obesity, seen as medical complications? Do you experience feelings of hopelessness, helplessness and sometimes suicidality? Do you feel guilty about your overeating? Do you feel shame about your body size?
