Self assessment for post traumatic stress disorder

| Print |

The following questions have been designed to help you assess whether you have some of the symptoms of post traumatic stress (pts). This assessment is not designed to make a diagnosis, or take the place of a professional diagnosis, however, it is a way for you to gain some clarity around your situation.

As you read each of the following, click the button beside each question that relates to your thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

Have you:

experienced or seen something that involved death, injury, torture or abuse and felt very scared or helpless
had upsetting memories or dreams of the event for at least ONE month
found it hard to go about your daily life (e.g. made it difficult for you to work/study or get along with family and friends)

Your Result:

If you answered 'YES' to ALL of these questions, have you also experienced at least THREE of the following:

avoided activities that remind you of the event
had trouble remembering parts of the event
felt less interested in doing things you used to enjoy
had trouble feeling intensely positive emotions (e.g. love or excitement)
thought less about the future (e.g. about career or family goals)?

Your Result:

AND have you experienced at least TWO of the following:

had difficulties sleeping (e.g. had bad dreams, or found it hard to fall or stay asleep)
felt easily angry or irritated
had trouble concentrating
felt on guard
been easily startled

Your Result:
If you answered 'YES', it is important to see a doctor.

If you answered "yes" to Part I, identified 3 or more symptoms in Part II and 2 or more symptoms in Part III, you may be suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

We encourage you to consult your doctor or contact South Pacific Private by phone (1800 063 332) or email us and we can discuss whether you could benefit in participating in one of our treatment options.
