South Pacific Private launches ‘MySPP’ client recovery app

November 8, 2023

One of the greatest fears those who seek treatment face is often, ‘what if it doesn’t work? What if I relapse as soon as I walk out the door?’.

In the early days of recovery these are common thoughts to have. We face many hurdles that we know we will need to overcome to move on from overwhelming addiction, such as dealing with withdrawal symptoms, navigating the people, places and things from your past as well as the general stress of life.

All of these things, and more, can be triggers for us at this vulnerable time in our lives, and can put strain on our sobriety efforts. At South Pacific Private, we recognise that whilst our unhelpful behaviours may come to stop whilst in treatment, the stressors of daily life don’t. In recovery, we must find healthy ways of maintaining what we learn in treatment and putting them into practice to help lessen our chances of experiencing a lapse, or relapse.

Addiction is a complex disease, and whilst relapse is a common occurrence (and by no means a personal failure) we know that relapse rates are significantly lowered with comprehensive follow-up treatment. Evidence shows that 90 days is the minimum treatment duration for clients to achieve gains from treatment in a community setting. Simply put, the longer one engages with professional, community based support in the early days of sobriety, the better the outcome.

That’s why South Pacific Private has developed the MySPP client app, to provide a real-time, up to date communication platform that keeps us in touch with clients once they leave the Inpatient Program. The MySPP works as a conduit between clients and their Continuing Care Case Manager, who stay in touch frequently in the first 90 days.

In addition, MySPP provides clients a range of useful tools to set them up for success in recovery, including:

  • Relapse prevention tools
  • Meeting finder
  • Daily affirmations
  • Mindfulness tools
  • Appointment reminders
  • Referral lists
  • Therapy notes
  • Sleep sounds and stories
  • Guided meditations
  • Safety plans
  • Important contacts

In conjunction with our 90 Day Recovery Pathway, MySPP further enables us to ensure that each client has the opportunity to receive:

  • Consistent follow-up
  • Case management post-inpatient treatment
  • Direct engagement with carers and families
  • Support at critical relapse entry-points
  • Ongoing psychiatric review

We are incredibly proud that South Pacific Private is the first private hospital to introduce a tool such as this, and in our 30th year, illustrates our commitment to our pioneering roots in treating addiction, anxiety and depression. MySPP is yet another way we are helping Australians achieve long term recovery.
