Self Assessment: Drug and Substance Abuse
This self-assessment is designed to help you identify key indicators of drug addiction and substance misuse and raise awareness about negative, escalatory or cyclical patterns. It is not intended as a clinical diagnostic tool.
Do I have a Problem with Drug and Substance Abuse?
In our contemporary Australian culture drug addiction means different things to different people, but we know there is widespread use of illicit drugs in communities right across the nation, at all levels of socio-economic class.
The line between moderate recreational use and problematic addiction can be all too easy to cross, with a real risk of rapid escalation.
At South Pacific Private, we recognise drug addiction as a particularly devastating and all-consuming disease which can destroy lives, fracture families and risk serious health impacts – including overdose and death.
As you read each of the following statements, we urge you to take your time to think about the answer before selecting the response which feels right. Only you will see the results of this test, so take this as an opportunity to be completely honest with yourself.
Remember, minimising and denying behaviours and consequences is a symptom of drug addiction.
